Basho Cafe

I have been longing to visit this lovely Japanese cafe for the longest time, however it was hard to find time to go. This is due to the cafe hours, they are only opened Monday – Friday, 9:00 – 3:00 which are not convenient hours for me as I work and reside pretty far away from the cafe. I did however finally find the time to go with my friend last week though and we were pretty excited. Basho cafe is known for their matcha drinks and sweets.

Raisu

Raisu opened up a few months ago, it is the sister restaurant of suika, kingyo and rajio, all well known and popular Japanese izakayas in Vancouver. After seeing pictures of the very photogenic foods on instagram we decided to give this place a try. We called a few days ahead to try to make a reservation but were told that they couldn’t take reservations anymore because they were full. However they told us that we could walk in for the big walk in table which is half the restaurant. We thought that was quite odd but we decided to go ahead and walk in.  We were seated at the center of the restaurant at a big square communal table, but next to us was two seats reserved? that confused us because the person I talked to when I called said there couldn’t be reservations for this area……but okay whatever.

Pink Sugar Cafe

I have longed to go to Pink sugar cafe for a while, and finally got a chance to venture into this little cafe. This cafe is known for their daily lunch set, which is Japanese styled. It is located in a small plaza across the street from Henderson place. I usually take pictures of the individual dishes but I guess I was too excited to do that this time.

Guu Richmond

I was searching for a restaurant to eat at for lunch in Richmond so of course I pulled out my handy dandy zomato app. I saw Guu richmond listed on the app so I decided to check this location out since I’ve been to a few of their other locations. Guu Richmond was in a corner on the 2nd floor of Aberdeen. It was really tucked away and hidden, We wondered how they got customers. I was really interested in the ‘Special Lunch Set’  which came with 3 kinds of seafood don and a mini udon for the price of $9.80. It also came with a mini macaroni salad which I found extremely tasteless, but I thought it was a cute addition and didn’t care much since the lunch set was a really cheap price anyways.

I really wanted to eat some authentic Japanese food and my friends and I were in Richmond one day so we decided to check gyo-o out as I have been keeping my eyes on this place for a while. Gyo-o is located in the Continental plaza a few blocks away from Aberdeen station and Aberdeen centre The restaurant was very busy and packed on a sunday during lunch time. The interior was very cute, there were wooden blocks on the walls with random Japanese writing on them. I decided to order whatever seemed popular on instagram and blog posts.

Kishimoto Japanese Kitchen & Sushi Bar

Screenshot_2015-07-11-17-55-16-1

I really wanted to visit Kishimoto because it is currently one of the most popular sushi restaurants in town and I was curious to see why. My friend and I arrived at around 6:00 and there were a few tables ahead of us so it was probably a 20 minute wait. The place was hot and humid as there was no air conditioning and it didn’t help that the place was small and cramped with people.
